Blue Ridge Run

Blue Ridge Run is a purpose-built long-haul fiber optic backbone extending approximately 837 miles from Ashburn, Virginia to Huntsville, Alabama. The route originates in the Northern Virginia data center corridor and extends south and west through key metropolitan and federal corridors across Virginia, Tennessee, and Alabama.

ABOUT BLUE RIDGE RUN

The network architecture has been engineered to meet mission-critical infrastructure standards. Dedicated in-line amplifier (ILA) facilities are strategically positioned along the route to maintain signal integrity and support long-distance optical performance. Independent handholes and controlled access points are incorporated throughout the system to enable secure lateral connections into hyperscale data centers, federal installations, carrier hotels, and enterprise facilities without disrupting backbone operations. Numerous splice locations are also integrated to support seamless future expansions and customer-specific laterals.

In Northern Virginia, a ring-based topology has been incorporated to mitigate single points of failure and enable automatic rerouting in the event of a fiber interruption. High fiber counts and a low-latency design ensure substantial capacity for current and future applications while maintaining flexibility for additional network growth over time.

The project is planned for start of construction in Q2 2026, with full point-to-point delivery by year-end 2028.
